NUKULUK FEEL SO

Ambitious experimental collective Nukuluk impressed us (and a number of other musos) with their impactful debut 'Ooh Ah' last month. Today, the talented group of friends have shared 'Feel So' - its profound follow up. Written amongst the terrifying uncertainty of early lockdown, producer and vocalist Syd expresses a "feeling of helplessness in front of widespread social crisis: a lack of support or care being extended to those in need, an unforgiving world that wouldn’t listen to those on its fringes," whilst rapper Monkia echoes Syd’s sentiments from different perspectives, detailing his frustration with "the racist immigration and welfare systems which grind people down". Sonically taking cues from trip-hop and Boards of Canada-esque electronica, there's even a hint of The xx about Syd's casually delivered vocal. The intentionally unfinished hook of the song, 'sometimes I look at it and feel so...',  represents Syd's overwhelmed state perfectly, finding him entirely lost for words. Accompanied by another highly conceptual video, which draws on a wide range of Nukuluk bassist and filmmaker, Mateo Villanueva Brandt’s most cherished sci-fi films, books and comics, 'Feel So' is another incredibly thoughtful release by a band with bags of potential. -Holly Mullineaux
